Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal

Built in 1636 by King Thirumalai Nayak, this magnificent palace stands as one of the most outstanding examples of Dravidian architecture in South India. The grandeur of its pillared halls and ornate stucco work continues to awe visitors nearly four centuries later.

Originally the palace was four times its current size, but much of it was dismantled by Thirumalai's grandson. What remains today — the main hall and the dance hall — is still breathtaking in scale and beauty.

Highlights

  • Massive pillared Swarga Vilasam (Celestial Pavilion) with 248 pillars
  • Stunning Indo-Saracenic architectural fusion
  • Nightly Sound & Light Show narrating Nayak history
  • Intricate stucco sculptures and soaring domes
  • One of the grandest royal structures in Tamil Nadu
