Meenakshi Amman Temple

One of the most magnificent temples in India, the Meenakshi Amman Temple is the beating heart of Madurai. Dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (a form of Parvati) and her consort Sundareswarar (Shiva), this ancient shrine dates back over 2,500 years and draws millions of devotees and travellers every year.

The temple complex spans 14 acres and is renowned for its 14 towering gopurams (gateway towers), adorned with thousands of colourful sculpted figures. The tallest rises to 52 metres. Walking through its corridors feels like stepping inside living history.
